Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as ALS, has been identified as the cause of American singer Roberta Flack’s vocal and spoken difficulties, according to her manager Suzanne Koga. Koga, however, noted in a statement that much more than ALS will be required to create this insignia. In 2016, Flack experienced a stroke. Despite being diagnosed, Flack intends to carry on with her musical and artistic pursuits through her Roberta Flack Foundation, according to the press. The charity reportedly supports aspiring artists and causes near to Flack’s heart. Director Antonino D’Ambrosio will present Roberta, a full-length documentary about Flack and her life, at the DOC NYC film festival this coming week. Roberta will debut on PBS’ American Masters series on January 24, 2023. In the coming year, Flack will also publish ‘The Green Piano: How Little Me Found Music,’ a children’s book about her early years and how picking up the piano changed her life, which she co-wrote with Tonya Bolden.
The AP article also says that Flack’s fourth solo album, “Killing Me Softly,” will be reissued the following year on the occasion of its 50th anniversary. Five Grammy Awards have been given to Roberta Flack, including a lifetime achievement award in 2020.
